How do I know if I need a low-pressure tap?

Low-pressure fittings are called taps that are connected to a boiler (usually found in kitchens, also known as an under-sink unit or open hot water heater). A boiler makes little sense in a bathroom, since such a device usually only holds 5-10 liters of water – far too little for showering or filling the bathtub. In the kitchen, on the other hand, this amount is enough to fill the sink or wash a few plates. Please note: do not confuse a boiler with a water heater, which heats the water as it passes through, rather than a limited amount of water.

If you have a flow heater or a standard hot and cold water connection, you can use a standard faucet that has two connection hoses, while a low-pressure faucet has three hoses. Low-pressure taps are available for a range of applications, including the bathroom, but are most commonly used in the kitchen for the reasons mentioned. They are therefore also available with additional features, such as a swivel or pull-out spout. Finally, a note: since excess pressure from the boiler escapes through the tap, it may drip a little – don't be surprised, this is perfectly normal.
